Community
"We cannot love God unless we love
each other. We know Him in the breaking of the bread and we
know each other in the breaking of the bread and we are not
alone anymore. Heaven is a banquet and life is a banquet too,
even with a crust, where there is companionship. We have all
known the long loneliness and we have learned that the only
solution is love and that love comes with community."
Dorothy Day
For Catholic Workers community life is both a practical way
to live simply as well as an attempt to take seriously and
practice daily, the call to love one another. Community life
prompts the daily discipline of looking beyond human frailties
while continually seeing and striving to honor the sacred
in each person who comes to us. Common work, common prayer,
round table discussions and community celebrations are ways
to cultivate and sustain community.
